The 6ths, Melanie Safka I've Got New York
Recently found this short little gem from Melanie, but the backing track wasn't to my taste so I removed it, and made a little video to accompany it. I know the song is called "I've ...." I thought I would rename it "I..." for this video as I imagined that's what a native New Yorker like Melanie would say. Although she's gone from this earth her vibrancy and lust for life persists in this and her lifetime works.

This is at once a very personal reflection on relationships and decisions made and also, as you suggest, a very poignant meditation on the aspirations of many who were lucky enough to experience the 60's.'s . Rose Simpson who was in the band has written one of the best books on her experience in the band , "Muse, Odalisque, Handmaiden" and that also captures the mood of the counter culture as it developed and to a degree withered. It makes a perfect literary complement to Mike's song especially in the latter chapters.
